Job Title: Museum Store and Visitor Services Assistant

Responsibilities: Museum Store and Visitor Services Assistants will be cross-trained to help in multiple areas. Their main duties will be as Front Desk and Museum Store Attendants. The Museum Store serves as an ongoing fundraising source for the High Point Historical Society. This position requires volunteers to sell merchandise, run the cash register, keep track of Museum attendance, and greet visitors and answer general questions about the Museum and the Historical Park. Additional duties may include answering the phone. This position is very important as these volunteers are the face of the Museum and add a personal touch our visitors experience.

Qualifications: Visitor service assistants must be friendly, comfortable when speaking with visitors, and willing and able to do all tasks listed in the volunteer job description. Fluency or proficiency in a second language is desirable.

Training: We provide free training, both introductory and on-going, so that all volunteers will feel confident about their work. The High Point Museum will also train volunteers about the COVID-19 policies within the Museum and the Historical Park.

We have established the following safety procedures: limiting the number of visitors in the Museum at a time, staff, visitors and volunteers required to wear masks, protective barriers at the front desk, hand sanitization stations throughout the building and stylus available for touchscreens (cash register, train interactive button, elevator buttons).

Commitment: We ask our visitor service volunteers to work a minimum of two, two-hour shifts per month for a total of at least 4 hours. Shifts are available Tuesday-Friday during standard Museum operating hours.

Benefits: Museum volunteers receive all Museum mailings, a 10% discount in the Museum Store, and an invitation to Historical Society events at the member rate. They will also receive a monthly newsletter and will be invited to volunteer appreciation events throughout the year.
