Calling all Superheroes! As the Parkinson’s Foundation of Minnesota & Dakotas, we are looking for volunteers to help support our Moving Day Twin Cities Drive-Thru Celebration coming up on May 1 at Grace Church in Eden Prairie. The event itself will take place from 8:30am-12:30pm, with many different shifts and roles available. We are looking for support with everything from set-up to photography, cheer leading, and more! Mission Statement

The Minnesota Chapter of the Parkinson Foundation is an affiliate of the Parkinson Foundation. We serve Minnesota's Parkinson's community with a wide range of resources, connections and support at no cost to people with Parkinson's or their caregivers. Parkinson's disease is caused by the deterioration of neurons in the brain that produce dopamine, an essential neurotransmitter that controls smooth, coordinated muscle functions. When approximately 60-80% of dopamine-producing cells are damaged, motor symptoms of PD appear. We make life better for people with Parkinson's through expert care and research. Everything we do helps people actively enjoy life with their friends, families, children and grandchildren until there is a tomorrow without Parkinson's.

Description

We bring help and hope to a generation of an estimated one million individuals in the US, four to six million worldwide, who are living with Parkinson's disease (PD). In Minneosta roughly 10,000 people have been diagnosed with Parkinsons. The prevalence of PD will increase substantially in the next 20 years due to the aging on the population.

  • The Parkinson's Foundation has funded more than $189 million in research and suppport services to improve lives of people with Parkinson's.
  • The Parkinson's Outcome Project, the largest-ever clinical research study of Parkinson's disease, includes nearly 10,000 patients from four countries.
  • We help people with Parkinson's every day by providing support, education and free resources.
  • Moving Day, A Walk for Parkinson's, brings the local community together to raise funds and awareness about a disease that impacts so many of our family and friends.
