Looking to improve your health while helping others? Want to make new friends while making a difference?
The award-winning RSVP Bone Builders program is an osteoporosis exercise and education program with a strong emphasis on the social and fun side of working out. Must be 55 years or older to join the fun.
As a Volunteer Instructor, you will lead twice-weekly exercise classes (about an hour each time) that use light weights and exercises that are performed either sitting or standing next to a chair. Volunteer Instructors co-teach with a partner, allowing flexibility for vacation and personal days.
Class size is small. Participants are typically seniors, age 55 and older. Classes are free, noncompetitive and designed to improve muscle strength, balance and bone density.
Training includes visiting at least two of the existing 22 classes in west Ventura County, attending a 6-hour training class (held quarterly) and then returning to observe three more classes. Instructors are also asked to attend quarterly in-service trainings where up-to-date information is provided.
