Save to Favorites

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

SOARing for Gold SOAR Summer Day Camp is the week of July 19-23rd, 2021! Our theme is the Olympics. The camp is hosted at Grace Church South Overland Park (8500 W 159th St, Overland Park, KS 66223). Volunteers can serve anywhere from a half-day to all week. Camp is from 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday-Friday. We need volunteers to be buddies to individuals with special needs, medical team, crafts, sensory, outdoor games, check-in, and more. As a volunteer, Camp includes lunch every day. Those who serve at least 3 full days get a free camp t-shirt. Volunteers must be going into 6th grade and older to volunteer.

If you are 18 or older (by camp), and have not completed a background check with us within the past 3 years, you must submit a background check at least 3 weeks in advance of the event. A background check application from SOAR Special Needs will be sent to you after you register.

We want to ensure the health and safety of everyone with the ongoing concerns of COVID-19. We will be doing daily temperature checks for all staff, volunteers and campers. Staff and volunteers are required to wear a mask and campers are highly encouraged to. We will have extensive daily cleaning.

Mission Statement

Assist and empower families with special needs to SOAR in their local and faith communities with key resources, impactful activities, and thriving environments so that they can live beautiful lives.

SOAR's core values come down to the three main questions every family with special needs asks: Will my children ever be able to provide for themself? Who will take care of my child after I'm gone? Who will take care of me?
These are important questions which deserve a committed organization for solving them. This is why SOAR exists - to provide a powerful destiny for individuals and families with special needs.

We offer FREE SOARly Needed R&R (Respite) nights, both in-person and virtual, for our families with individuals with special needs. During our in person R&R nights, we also have a simultaneous sibling program for siblings from birth to 13-year-old. Each evening has a special theme. These respite nights require volunteers on a regular basis in order to be successful.

We also offer a week long summer day camp for over 100 individuals with special needs. SOAR Camp is not possible without the help of many volunteers throughout the week.
