826 Boston is a youth nonprofit that provides tutoring support to traditionally underserved students ages 6-18. In our After-School Tutoring program, students are paired with a tutor who provides homework support over Zoom.

Tutoring is on Mondays through Thursdays at 4:00-4:55 PM and 5:00-6:45 PM. Tutoring ends on June 3rd, so we are asking for people to commit to tutoring on a weekly basis starting late April or early May, through the last week of tutoring (a 4 to 6 week commitment). People can sign up for as many shifts a week, but we do ask for a weekly commitment so that students are working with the same tutor each week.

We also require that all new volunteers attend a new tutor training to learn best practices for working with youth. The upcoming dates for those are:

  • Next Tuesday, March 30 at 4:00-6:30 PM (sign up here: https://forms.gle/R4thvP9KjWLJmmHp7 )
  • Thursday, April 22 at 4:00-6:30 PM (sign up here: https://forms.gle/R4thvP9KjWLJmmHp7)

We literally can’t do this work without people like you--we hope you'll join us!

Mission Statement

826 Boston is a nonprofit writing, tutoring, and publishing organization where students in grades K-12 and beyond can share their stories, amplify their voices, and develop as leaders in school and in life.

Description

Our services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this understanding in mind, we provide drop-in tutoring, field trips, after-school workshops, in-schools tutoring, help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications.

All of our free programs seek to strengthen each student's power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in his or her individual voice.
