During these uncertain times, how can we help?
See below to access our COVID-19 Resource Hub, and to explore our growing directory of COVID-19-specific and virtual volunteering opportunities.
Rescuing Leftover Cuisine Rhode Island
Nearly1 in 4 Rhode Island households are food insecure as a result of COVID-19 - the highest rate of food insecurity in the State in 20 years.
Meanwhile, about 40% of consumable food is being thrown out.
That’s where Rescuing Leftover Cuisine steps in.
Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit food rescue organization that bridges the gap between available food and those who need it through our network of volunteer "Rescuers" using our food rescue app!
Food Donors include restaurants, hotels, schools, caterers, businesses who host catered events, and others. Recipients include shelters, soup kitchens and other human service agencies who freely serve any person suffering from homelessness, hunger or food insecurity; and eligible households in partnership with local schools and organizations.
RLC has rescued over 5 million pounds of food, and the Massachusetts branch (RLCMA) has rescued over half a million. We have recently crossed over the State line to Rhode Island and need your help to alleviate hunger and reduce wasted consumable food in Little Rhody! Virtual Volunteer opportunities are available for outreach.
