During these uncertain times, how can we help?
See below to access our COVID-19 Resource Hub, and to explore our growing directory of COVID-19-specific and virtual volunteering opportunities.
Here at Sertoma Centre, we provide opportunities that empower adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve personal success. We help over 2,000 individuals annually in the Greater Chicago Southside neighborhoods -and we need volunteers like you to support our mission!
The Volunteer Opportunity:
Become a Sertoma Story Teller and help us build our digital library. We need many awesome volunteers to choose a short story or book and video themselves reading aloud. With your help, we can provide our programs with personalized literacy and reading comprehension materials.
We provide services for people of all abilities so volunteers have a wide variety of reading levels to select from (reading age 5 to teen, and also young adult). We recommend showing the words and doing a follow along for younger age books, and showing yourself when reading more advanced books -everyone likes seeing a smiling face.
Volunteers can use books from the library, thrift store, etc., or find them digitally. We will also gladly accept the donated books to be raffled off to consumers. They would love that!
Service hours available. Please let us know if you have any questions.
