POSITION SUMMARY- Purpose of position and relevance to BRHS mission

As a Shoe Sorter Volunteer, your position is an asset to the Blue Ridge Humane Society in the continued support of our Shelter animals. Our organization is fortunate for the donations we receive and in the processing of our shoe donations, we are able to make a significant financial contribution to the care and well-being of all our animals.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Including but not limited to:

  • Duties and Responsibilities
    • All incoming shoe donations must first be thoroughly checked for the following defects which determine if they will be sellable or not.
      • Smells detectable on Shoes such as smoke, moth balls, a musty or damp odor
      • Rips, tares, peeling on the interior or exterior of shoe and dirty/stains regardless of size
      • Severe scuffing that cannot be repaired with shoe polish
      • Heel damage of any kind
      • Malfunctioning zippers, missing grommets and missing shoe laces
    • Once Shoes with any defect have been appropriately discarded, the sorter must then separate "Regular" vs. "Boutique" shoes
      • Regular Shoes (Non-Designer or High-end shoes)
      • Boutique Shoes (Designer and/or High-end shoes)
    • Both Shoe lines must be thoroughly cleaned, if needed, prior to pricing.
    • Once shoes are priced, and the appropriate months colored "Dot" has been inserted to the inside of the shoe, the shoe would be taken out on the floor. However, if there is no room on the floor, the priced and color coded shoe must remain in the appropriately marked shoe bin until space is made available for display.

  • Comply with all up-to-date COVID-19 policies and procedures.

To perform this volunteer position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Qualifications
    • Must be able to read
    • Must be able to stand while sorting shoes, cleaning, and pricing shoes
    • Must have minimal knowledge of men and women’s shoe labels
  • Must have completed general orientation or Virtual Volunteer Information Session.
  • Ability to function as part of a team and work with fellow volunteers, BRHS staff, and partner staff.

The Blue Ridge Humane Society offers a variety of volunteer opportunities from assisting in our Adoption Center, Thrift Store, and with Community Programs! If you are a dog or cat lover, we are looking for driven individuals who are believe in ensuring the highest quality of life for animals in Henderson County. There are so many pieces that go into fulfilling our mission from adoption, prevention, and education and we need volunteers throughout every step of the way!
