Position: Volunteer Board Member

We are searching for an enthusiastic board member for a dynamic mental health and women empowerment focused organization, Ready to Empower (RTE). This volunteer will also advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, and assist with the leadership and general promotion of Ready to Empower as to support the organization’s mission and needs.

About Ready to Empower

  • Mission: To provide developing nonprofit organizations with the necessary tools to support at-risk women to restore hope and self-reliance.
  • Vision: To see a world where all women can have hope and be self-reliant.
  • Philosophy: RTE’s philosophy of empowerment is based on the famous proverb "Give a [Wo]man a fish and you feed her for a day. Teach a "[Wo]man to fish and you feed her for a lifetime."

Volunteer Board Member’s Major responsibilities:

  • Serve on a Board Committee
  • Organizational leadership and advisement
  • Formulation and oversight of policies and procedures
  • Review of organizational and programmatic reports
  • Promotion of the organization
  • Fundraising and outreach

Expectations of Board Members:

  • Attend and participate in meetings.
  • Attend special events. Highly encouraged to bring between 5-10 attendees to each event
  • Participate on a standing committee of the board, and serve on ad-hoc committees as necessary.
  • Be alert to community concerns that can be addressed by Ready to Empower’s mission, objectives, and programs.
  • Help communicate and promote Ready to Empower’s mission and programs to the community.
  • Become familiar with Ready to Empower’s finances, budget, and financial/resource needs.
  • Understand the policies and procedures of Ready to Empower.
  • Financially support Ready to Empower in a manner commensurate with one’s ability with a give or get policy valuing $1,000 each year. (This can include the value of the tickets sold to events and or other in-kind donations)

Members of the board share these responsibilities while acting in the interest of Ready to Empower. Each member is expected to make recommendations based on his or her experience and vantage point in the community.

General Information:

Length of term: two years, which may be renewed up to a maximum of three consecutive terms, pending approval of the board.

Meetings and Time Commitment:

  • The Board of directors meets 3 times a year. Meetings typically last 90 minutes.
  • Committees of the Board meet an average of 3- 5 times per year, pending their respective work agenda.

Description

Ready to Empower’s vision is to see a world where all women can have hope and be self-reliant. Our pilot program is being offered with one of our sister organizations based in Costa Rica, Árbol de Esperanza. The programs and support RTE offers to organizations internationally includes business guidance and mentoring for leaders running an established NGO, Non- Profit and or Association internationally. In addition, RTE offers programs such as; our Mental Health Program, Work for Service Program, and Educational classes to help empower the local leaders to be equipped to help their poverty stricken communities. As RTE looks into the future, sister organizations will one day function independently of Ready to Empower. Ultimately. RTE envisions self-sustaining chapters throughout the world.
