Mission Statement

The purpose of the Lyme Disease Association of Southern Arizona is to improve the quality of life for people with Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses by offering support and disseminating information to educate and empower patients, families, healthcare providers and the community at large.

Description

LDASA was formed in 2019. and obtained 501c3 tax-exempt status in June, 2020. Previously we were part of another organization, Arizona Lyme Disease Association. Our goals include education of medical professionals, public awareness, and research into local prevalence of tick borne illnesses.
New CDC research based on insurance records suggests that each year approximately 476,000 Americans are diagnosed and treated for Lyme disease. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection primarily transmitted by ticks. It is found throughout the United States, and on all continents except Antartica. Experts agree that the earlier you are treated the better, since early treatment is often successful. Unfortunately, a substantial portion of patients treated with short-term antibiotics continue to have significant symptoms. and lingering symptoms can continue for years - sometimes indefinitely.
