About the Center for Contemplative Research (CCR):

The Center for Contemplative Research in Crestone, Colorado, has been founded by Dr. Alan Wallace with the blessings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Our purpose is to join contemplative and scientific inquiry to create a new science of consciousness. We provide a conducive environment at our hermitage for deep contemplative study and practice, while collaborating with scientists on studies exploring the potentials of human consciousness and the cultivation of genuine happiness. We believe that this work is essential to advance knowledge, wisdom and well-being - helping to restore balance where it has been lost, in the lives of individuals and in the global community as a whole.

Job overview:

The Executive Marketing & Communications Team Leader is responsible for the development, planning, oversight, and implementation of a marketing and communications program to support the goals of CCR and Miyo Samten Ling (our hermitage). The position works collaboratively with other members of the Executive Team and the Board of Directors to develop and implement marketing and communications strategies, assists with fundraising goals, supports long‐term strategic planning, and ensures integration of organizational priorities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create, execute and manage strategies to meet, or surpass, organizational marketing, communications and fundraising goals for short‐term and long‐term objectives - including branding, marketing and public relations (social media) strategies.

  • Develop deep insights and tailored value proposition for CCR’s varying audiences (both internal and external) - ensuring all marketing and comms are tailored accordingly.
  • Refine CCR’s brand identity in alignment with our mission & values. Building cohesion internally and ensuring we communicate consistently externally.
  • Work collaboratively, providing subject matter expertise and thought leadership, to guide and finalise ongoing projects to develop core marketing assets - website, short film and donor deck.
  • Design, implement and embed the right set of marketing and communications systems, processes, policies and collateral in CCR, ensuring all internal and external comms issued via CCR are always on-brand and on-message. Building trust and consistency between how we see ourselves internally, how we act, and how we represent ourselves externally.
  • Design, develop and execute branding initiatives and campaigns to position and increase awareness of our brand(s).
  • Design, develop and execute marketing and communications initiatives and campaigns to raise CCR’s profile across all key external audiences - e.g. spread our message and mission, gain exposure in the media, alert the public to important events and news and reach more people with the work we do.
  • Support the development and execution of fundraising initiatives and campaigns to meet our short and long term funding needs - including development of appropriate collateral.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of donor development, stewardship, and recognition strategies to enhance donor relationships.
  • Engage regularly with the Fundraising Team about messaging, newsletters, CCR promotional material and other shared areas of responsibility. Drive and support the development and execution of CCR community initiatives and communications e.g. monthly CCR newsletters, volunteer newsletters, etc.
  • Implement robust tracking and reporting of all initiatives and campaigns against objectives, ensuring reasonable ROI and learnings are captured and incorporated appropriately. Plan and lead marketing meetings, engaging other staff, volunteers, and board members as needed.
  • Support the Executive Director in engaging the Board of Directors in marketing and communications - including education, development of strategies, execution updates and reporting outcomes.
