Volunteers for Community Impact

StoryCorps is a non-profit with a platform to help people preserve stories and personal history for all to enjoy and learn from. Volunteers for Community Impact is looking for Virtual Storytellers who want to share such a story. The story will be audio-recorded and facilitated by an interviewer who will ask questions to help guide the conversation.

Prior to the recording, storytellers will review informational power points, review the questions to be asked and have a brief phone introduction with the interviewer.

Stories can cover any range of topics. Here are examples of topics we wanted to cover: the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, life lessons learned through the current pandemic, hurricane preparation. We would love stories specific to Orange County to show how the county took shape, where we are now, and what the future may hold. Do you have another idea? Let us know!

In order for stories to be captured, the storyteller needs a computer with a microphone and an e-mail address that's all! If the computer doesn’t have a microphone, one can be checked out from the Volunteers for Community Impact Office in Orlando.

Volunteers can tell one or more stories. Each story will be a separate recording. Storytellers must be enrolled under the RSVP program, will have to create an account on StoryCorps, and be 55 or older. Once enrolled, all questions can be directed to your RSVP Coordinator.

Mission Statement

Our mission: "Improving Lives Through Volunteerism."

We are the leading organization for senior volunteerism in the greater Central Florida area, serving Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties. Just last year, 1,186 caring adult volunteers gave 438,683 hours of service. That is more than $9.5 million dollars worth of volunteer service being poured back into our communities.

Previously known as Florida Senior Programs, VCI has been the sponsoring agency for the REtired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Foster Grandparent Programs since 1977. Our 36 year presence has proven our aptitude for providing meaningful and impactful volunteer experiences.

VCI provides membership benefits and support to volunteers aged 55+, at no cost to the volunteers or their volunteer stations. Just a few of the benefits of membership include: Supplemental insurance while volunteering, a dedicated coordinator, and matching to find the perfect position to fit the interest of the volunteer.
