NOTES:

  • We're based in Chicago, IL and working remote due to Covid safety.
  • This employer is willing to work with students who are seeking academic credit or volunteer hours, including for credit and non-credit courses.

Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED), the Business Development volunteer will spearhead development efforts as our Nonprofit continues to grow. A new position in the start-up organization, the BD volunteer will have the opportunity to build the development function.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Co-develop and execute our Nonprofit's annual fundraising plan with ED and Board
  • Generates positive community awareness of the organization, its mission and impact, and strengthens its brand and reputation with business partners, clients and the community we serve
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations
  • Manage the implementation of tracking database and oversee data entry and gift processing
  • Co-develop relationships with major donors in partnership with ED and marketing efforts
  • Co-create and execute a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors (with Board and ED)
  • Overseeing organization of special events
  • Developing and tracking proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising
  • Search, organize and write grants

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in fundraising, sales, or entrepreneurial development
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
  • Experience with building relationships
  • Ability and passion to use phone, email, video calls to network (in-person only when safe)
  • Expertise in networking, marketing and targeted influencer identification and outreach
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate information in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated ability to work effectively with members of organizational boards, colleagues, business partners, prospects and community stakeholders
  • Ability to assess motivations and desires in others, create empathy and identify commonalities and a shared vision
  • Proficiency in Google Office and Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Skype and PowerPoint, and grants management systems, Google Drive, Jam Board, etc.

  • Be available for max 20 hours a week (will work with individual on availability and hours are flexible)
