Every year, 4.5 million Americans need to go through a blood transfusion; which means doctors need to have a lot of blood in the bank! By creating a friendly, kind, and welcoming environment for blood donors, volunteers like yourself make it possible for these transfusions to happen.
A 5 hour shift per month is the minimum requirement.
Responsibilities:
Make donors feel safe and welcome. Greet them, answer any questions or concerns they have for the donation process. Explain further on any given topic when necessary.
Check and manage the temperatures of donors, explain the reasoning and why they are being deferred when applicable.
Show patience and understanding to donors. Direct them to next steps of donation or options for future donations if deterred.
Share with donors the Red Cross story, mission, vision, and values to help give them a better understanding of their impact.
Provide care to donors in Hospitality Area; make sure they are recognized for their contribution. Question for and report possible adverse post-donation physical reactions to collections staff. Help uphold COVID-19 safety protocols (social distancing, masks, cleanliness, etc.) during their visit as to provide maximum safety to others health.
