Physiotherapy occupational therapy program for those practising or aspiring to practice physiotherapy/ medicine, this internship is an incredible opportunity, which will help you appreciate the challenges faced in developing countries around medical care. As a physiotherapy volunteer/ intern, you will shadow registered physiotherapists and may take part in physio sessions for adults and children, depending on prior experience and skills. The majority of work will be observation-based (unless already qualified), which allows a great opportunity to gain valuable firsthand knowledge, giving your resume that extra advantage.

We can offer physiotherapy occupational therapy placements to suit volunteers of all levels of experience, so whether you are an aspiring physiotherapist or a qualified professional we will be happy to provide you with placement and we will tailor your role based upon your background.

Volunteers with less experience will work alongside a local physiotherapist and will have the opportunity to learn through observing and helping out in practical ways. Those with more experience and qualifications will be able to play a more active role and may even be given their own patients to treat.

Physiotherapy Occupational Therapy Highlights:
  • Join our physiotherapy occupational therapy program and gain work experience by following physical therapists as they work at hospitals. You will watch as they treat adults and children working to improve lives.
  • Gain work experience in physiotherapy occupational therapy by observing physical therapists in hospitals and rehabilitation centres
  • You will observe physiotherapy occupational therapy sessions that focus on showing members how to care for and assist children with special needs. This helps families bond, and it will help children with special needs.
  • Learn more about overseas healthcare systems and various practices the clinic use
  • Gain valuable fist hand experience or pass on skills and practices from back home
  • Get more hands-on, depending on experience, and help children and adults during their physio sessions

The rehabilitation clinic can be understaffed or lack an insufficient number of medical professionals. You will be able to witness how the physios at the clinic cope and handle the limited recourses. This can be an eye-opening experience.

There will not be any hands-on work unless you are experienced. If not, then most of your learning will mainly be through observation. Many options are available for volunteers depending on your skill level. You will spend the first couple of days observing and being assessed for your experience level which will be discussed and agreed to with the professionals at the clinic in order to assess your daily tasks.
