Mission: The mission of the Parkinson’s Foundation is to make life better for people with Parkinson’s disease by improving care and advancing research toward a cure. In everything we do, we build on the energy, experience and passion of the Parkinson’s community. The Community Resource Volunteer will further our mission by ensuring people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones have current information regarding support services in their area. The objectives of the Community Resource Volunteer are to investigate and vet community resources (support groups and wellness classes) and to create lists of these resources for the Foundation’s Chapter webpages.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities: It is the goal of the Foundation that the volunteer(s) selected for this position have the knowledge and expertise to complete the assigned duties listed below. A maximum of 5 volunteers will serve as Community Resource Volunteer.
- Learn and understand the Parkinson’s Foundation regional structure and chapter network.
- Research new local community resources online for assigned chapter(s) - resources include support groups, exercise classes, free educational programs, neurologists, etc.
- Call and verify information regarding new and existing resources, for example, support group meeting time and location.
- Maintain an organized list of vetted resources to share with staff and on Chapter Websites.
- Conduct periodic follow up to verify information is correct and update resource list(s) as needed.
Qualifications & Desired Skills:
- Basic administrative and computer skills
- Familiarity with Google Docs a plus
- Very organized and meticulous nature
- Friendly attitude and professional communication skills
- Comfortable calling resource contacts to verify information
- Willing and able to use personal computer to complete volunteer tasks
Commitment: Minimum of 3 hours per week. Volunteer shifts will be agreed upon by both the volunteer and supervising staff. Connect every 3 weeks with supervising staff to review progress and set goals for the next 3 weeks.
Expectations: Service as the Community Resource Volunteer is unpaid. This service is completed from home. Participation shall be limited to a one-year term with the eligibility to continue service upon staff review and volunteers willingness to continue.
Benefits: The Community Resource Volunteer(s) will have the opportunity to meet and network with Foundation staff and fellow volunteers while gaining valuable professional experience. The Community Resource Volunteer(s) will learn more about the organization’s work while networking within the broader Parkinson’s Foundation community.
