Are you looking to gain experience in facilitation, public speaking, or training small groups? Want to join the movement for food justice by developing the next generation of leaders?

Offer your skills and experience to a national cohort of hunger relief workers in the Harvest VISTA Program. The Harvest VISTA Program is an incubator and catalyst that supports a team of 12 AmeriCorps members embedded in partner organizations currently in 5 states. Harvest VISTA national service members build sustainable projects in gleaning, produce recovery, food systems and more. An hour of your time will inspire and empower these national service members in their projects and careers, and introduce tangible skills that will help them build sustainable, innovative solutions.

  • Gain public speaking, training, teaching and/or facilitation experience with a group of talented, motivated people
  • Fine-tune a presentation in a particular topic, or use your creativity to develop a new one in a welcoming, low-stakes environment
  • Be a part of long-lasting systems change by supporting those working behind-the-scenes to end food insecurity
  • Learn about innovative and fascinating hunger relief projects happening across WA state and the country, and develop deeper insight into nuanced problems and solutions around food insecurity
  • Practice your comfort with Zoom and other online meeting platforms

About HARVEST AGAINST HUNGER

Location:

1201 1ST AVE SOUTH SUITE 304, SEATTLE, WA 98134, US

Mission Statement

To feed people experiencing hunger with surplus nutritious produce, we connect farmers, produce packing facilities, transportation providers and food banks; we develop and share innovative hunger relief solutions; and we engage the public in hunger relief.

Description

Harvest Against Hunger connects farmers, truckers, volunteers and foodbanks in Western Washington to reduce hunger and food waste. Our Harvest VISTA Program allows us to support this work at a national scale. An incubator and catalyst, the Harvest VISTA Program utilizes a team of AmeriCorps VISTA embedded in local food system organizations across the county to serve marginalized and underserved communities. While serving at their host sites, Harvest VISTA members build and strengthen capacity for gleaning and produce recovery, as well as for local food systems.

The produce recovery and gleaning programs focus on increasing access to local, fresh produce at the farm level, from urban fruit tree share programs in Salt Lake City to independent farm partnerships in Boston. The food system programs improve on existing models and create new ones, such as a grocery delivery program in Atlanta developed in the wake of COVID-19.
