Cape Fear Botanical Garden

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 1 person is interested

We are looking for an artistically talented volunteer (like a college art student or retired art teacher) who would be willing to create a classroom mural for our nature education classroom. We need someone with the skills to design the mural themselves. You would come in first to talk with us, see the space and take measurements, then submit a design and if approved, help us paint it. The classroom is used for children's and adult's nature classes for hundreds of people each year. The space is above the white board, so it is high on the wall but very focal in the room. There are a few necessary items on the wall (fire alarm and vent) that can't be moved so the mural would need to work around those. We would also like to paint one other wall in the room a solid color. We hope the result will make our classroom space a more inviting and engaging learning environment.

About Cape Fear Botanical Garden

Mission Statement

The purpose of the Cape Fear Botanical Garden is to enrich, inspire and serve the Cape Fear Region as a dynamic center for the collection, culture, and aesthetic display of plants; to encourage the enjoyment of the natural beauty of plants and birds; to promote environmental stewardship; and to provide educational and research resources for the community.

Situated on the bluffs of the Cape Fear River, at the confluence of the Cape Fear River and the Cross Creek River, The Cape Fear Botanical Garden maintains original, old growth forest and plants indigenous to the area. The 85-acre garden is comprised of both formal, cultivated gardens and natural woodland areas intersected with a network of over 3 miles of barrier-free foot-trails with interpretive signs that provide for a scenic and educational exploration of the forest above the river.

The Garden offers educational opportunities, tours, and various seasonal events ranging from the annual fall "Harvest Hoedown" to the summer Symphony concert in the amphitheater.
