Games for Love is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that works to ease suffering, save lives, and create sustainable futures for children. We believe in the concept of "distraction therapy" and bring the joy of gaming into the lives of our junior gamers in hospitals around the country. We are seeking a Volunteer Game Development Team Lead who is a creative leader with proven game development experience to join our Channel Surfing Community Game Project. Channel Surfing is a small-scale open-world VR game where you can explore multiple worlds. Instead of channel surfing outside of the TV, you are in it, and able to interact with the world around you. In this role, you will be responsible for leading game development projects in the execution of project vision and the go-to-market strategy.

Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for leading a team of developers for some project management
2. Assist in the planning of systems, gameplay, mechanics, and features
3. Assure proper implementation of programming into the game project adhering to technical benchmarks for strong game performance
4. Prototyping solutions and development on the game while managing team members
5. Take ownership of day-to-day operations and cross-functional needs for a full-stack, distinct game development team
6. Provides task level direction and oversight of the project’s team of designers, developers, and QA
7. Drives overall product quality and test planning
8. Define and implement key performance metrics and feedback process
9. Identify roadblocks and provide solutions to mitigate risks

Requirements:

1. Able to donate approx. 10-20 hrs. a week (hours will vary depending on project and time management skills) for at least 12 months
2. Passion for video games
3. Experience with full-cycle game design
4. 2+ years experience leading development teams/projects
5. Strong communicator
6. Strong project management skills
7. Proficient with programming languages, including, Unity, C++, Java, and C
8. Ability to solve complex software and coding issues
9. Experience building libraries and APIs
10. Experience implementing processes and tools for efficiency gains
11. Basic understanding of good code architecture practices
12. VR experience is a plus
13. International or global/virtual project or program management experience
