Public Call For: Slow Food East Bay Volunteer Leadership Team Members

Slow Food East Bay is recruiting folks to join our core leadership team . We’re a 100% volunteer-run 501(c)3 nonprofit, the local East Bay area chapter of the global Slow Food movement committed to Good Clean and Fair Food for All .

Slow Food East Bay’s mission is to take the movement’s broader principles and tailor them to serve the uniqueness of the East Bay, taking into account the broad cultural and racial diversity of our community and the breadth of urban and rural areas we cover. We’re committed to creating inclusive spaces where people come together to celebrate food and have deeper conversations about a food system that is healthy, accessible and just.

Our recent projects focused on drawing attention to those in the food system often marginalized or left out of the mainstream conversation. Through the Cultural Food Traditions Project and Sister Farms , we championed the work and stories of farmers of color, immigrant chefs and Black food entrepreneurs and are committed to building on this foundation in our future work.

In order to do so, we need to expand our team!

We’re looking for passionate and dedicated individuals interested in serving on a collaborative leadership team of approximately 12 people, acting as Slow Food ambassadors and engaging in the tremendous work happening in our local food community. As part of a co-created leadership structure, you have the opportunity to build on past projects and relationships, explore your own food system passions and maybe bring Slow Food USA’s campaigns to the East Bay like the Ark of Taste , Slow Meat , Cooks Alliance , Plant a Seed and Slow Fish .

Ideal candidates have the curiosity to question the food system and work to make it better and are dedicated to food equity and climate and social justice. They come with any of a wide range of strengths and interests-from fundraising to social media prowess to stellar knife skills-and are looking for a platform from which to feature them. They value communication, are reliable, flexible and willing to roll up their sleeves and do the on-the-ground activities that help make Slow Food good partners, collaborators and educators. And they want to have fun, eat well, and spread the Slow Food goodness!

There are also opportunities to help make the work happen by serving on committees and assisting with one-off projects or events.
