Thank you for your interest in the Kids at Heart Program! COVID-19 has presented so many challenges for families and students.

The Kids at Heart program offers tutoring and mentoring for low-income children in grades Kindergarten through 12th. Most of our students live below the poverty line, and many speak English as a second language. Your participation in the lives of these children is significant. Many of our students struggle to do well in school, but the outcome of our combined efforts is priceless. With a judicious and compassionate mentor by their side, they will have a greater chance to succeed.

To be eligible for tutoring, volunteers must:

  • Submit a Volunteer Application at tinyurl.com/uplift-kah-tutor

  • Schedule an interview with the Programs Directors at tinyurl.com/upliftmartin

  • Pass a background check screening

  • Attend a Kids at Heart Volunteer Orientation/Training

  • Commit to tutoring a child during the school year (September - June) for one hour per week

  • Have access to high-speed internet and a laptop for optimal virtual tutoring success

UPLIFT is a faith-based, volunteer organization serving students and those experiencing homelessness. UPLIFT offers four programs with one purpose: Transforming Lives, Uplifting San Diego.

Description

Kids at Heart: 10 inner-city sites offer weekly tutoring and mentoring for low-income, racially diverse youth of San Diego. 150 volunteers provide one-on-one tutoring to these students, helping them improve literacy skills and achieve academic success.

Swimming Upstream: Young womens' mentoring program teaches leadership skills and prepares teens to navigate the waters of challenging high school years.

Triple Cross: Assists those experiencing homelessness CA ID's and transportation needs each week from the Neil Good Day Center.

The Home Team: Recruits, trains and places volunteers for all levels of service to those experiencing homelessness, including assessment, housing navigation, placement, move-in assistance & companionship to help those recently placed settle in to their new home.
