Minneapolis: Help Solve the Literacy Crisis as a UX Live Testing Team Lead

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: American Youth Literacy Foundation

Have you ever wanted to do something AMAZING to change the world but didn't know where to start?

Here is an opportunity to help underprivileged children, to help under-served children, to help ALL children, and even to help adults who can't read.

We are looking for two, very special people, who have the skills, expertise, experience, passion, and time to be part of something amazing that is about to fundamentally change the lives of millions of children. Right now, millions of children have no hope; but in the coming months, they will have the opportunity to learn how to read, which, in turn, will open a window to education and to a world of potential for them that, not only, has never been opened before, but that has never even been seriously contemplated as a potential reality.

What we are talking about is an adaptive learning, smartphone app, that can literally, teach a child to read in and average of just 12 hours of total use time!

We are the American Youth Literacy Foundation, dba FUNetix, and we have been teaching children how to read for 12 years! We have been developing this app for about two years, and in November we launched this incredible smartphone app in the Google Play store, while in January, we launched in the App Store.

We are looking for two more volunteers (one team lead and another team member) to join our UX team as we do an amazing nationwide rollout of our game changing app, including testing with families to derive real time feedback and video of kids learning to read!

More than 20 million children in grades 3-12 in America's public schools today can't read! That's all about to change.

Our organization is a 12 year old, nationwide, charitable 501 c 3 non-profit. We started out as a tutoring program and we still provide one-on-one tutoring. But our focus has always been on finding a scaleable solution to the literacy crisis in America.

With the rise of the smartphone and the amazing penetration of this powerful tool (currently estimated at 80%), even into the most impoverished communities, we know that the answer we have been searching for IS in the form of an app. So for the past several years we have been working to convert our amazing reading curriculum, that teaches children how to read in an average of just 12 hours, into an app that teaches children how to read in about the same time. And this is where you come in.

Now we are beginning to deliver an end-user experience (the UX) to millions of children in America's inner cities and rural counties, to the barrios and the suburbs, and to the American Indian reservations, and everywhere in-between, with this smartphone app.

We are looking for 2 very special people who have everything we mentioned above, passion, expertise, time, etc. to join our team and help us gather critical data as we launch our live testing and as we reboot our nationwide, distance tutoring program. Our UX/Live Testing team has completed the development and planning of our live testing to include sourcing user testing software and developing the back end tools to both capture and analyze the video and screen click data from real kids going through the app and learning how to read. Now it's time to launch the live testing. We are looking for applicants who are strategic, creative thinkers, skilled in planning and execution, with excellent communications, technology and writing skills.

If you wish to be considered for this opportunity to join the FUNetix UX/Live Testing Team, please send us a cover letter and resume to info@YouthLit.org.

We are looking for intelligent, creative, enthusiastic, cheerful, optimistic individuals with significant UX research and testing experience, in either a corporate or non-profit environment, and preferably, but not essentially, related to app development. This is a complex undertaking and we are looking for highly proficient and organized professionals. Just to be clear, our organization is an all volunteer, mission-centric, extended virtual network, comprised of highly skilled and experienced individuals from around the country (and a few from around the world) who collaborate through cloud-based technology and platforms. Individuals interested in this position must have the confidence and ability to work in a virtual environment using select networking and communications tools and platforms.

Thank you! We hope this opportunity finds you at the right place and the right time in your career to make a difference and an impact, in an amazing way, for millions of children who are waiting for someone, or some thing, to lead them out of a life of impoverishment and into a future of unlimited possibility and potential.

We look forward to hearing from you and speaking with you about the future of literacy in America.

Mr. R. Kali Woodward
Founding, Executive Director

Description

FUNetix is a patented, science-based, and incredibly simplified way of teaching reading to children that's available to parents and children anywhere in the United States and anywhere in the world. The FUNetix 12 hours Reading App is available in the App Store, Google Play store and Amazon App store.

FUNetix is 19-years-new, but in some ways, it is more than 2,000 years old.

Indeed, the patented FUNetix Reading Decoding System is rooted in an ancient methodology that shows readers how to see the hidden sounds in every word.

FUNetix earned its patent by borrowing the time-tested method called "diacritics" (which was developed more than 2,000 years ago by the Greeks, and adopted more than 1,000 years ago by the Hebrew and Arabic languages, to teach ALL children how to read those languages), and uniquely, completely and systematically applying it to English in a child-friendly and simple way.

FUNetix teaches children how to "map" or "marry" all 44 sounds of the English language to the letters and letter combinations that make up English words. This mapping (made easy by diacritics) takes all of the guesswork out of "sounding out" words.
