The North Alabama Zoological Society (NALZS) is looking for a Chief Financial Advisor (CFO).

Job Function (duties and responsibilities):

The manager of finance and Chief Financial Officer will define the process and implement the
infrastructure/systems needed to support substantial growth over the next five to 10 years.
She or he will continue to build and manage effective and streamlined financial systems.


As a member of the senior management team, the manager will be involved in strategic
planning, evaluation, and professional development initiatives.


As the initial member of the finance team, the manager will be responsible for all aspects of the nonprofits finances and accounting. As the team grows, the manager will be responsible for identifying suitable
candidates and mentoring them.

The position is primarily virtual. However, there are times when the CFO will need to attend meetings and/or perform tasks on site. Potential Candidates need to be located within 60 miles of Huntsville

The North Alabama Zoological Society (NALZS) is volunteer-run and this is a volunteer position.

There is an understanding from the organization that the selected volunteer will be using their own free time to accomplish the tasks of this position and their ability to commit time will vary.


The organization only expects to follow through on the tasks the volunteer has agreed to perform
in the time agreed upon.

● Review and approve preparation and finalization of monthly and annual financial
reporting materials and metrics for NALZS’s board of directors.
● Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow for administration and existing
programs.
● Recruit, interview, and retain support staff as needed in the future.
● Coordinate all audit activities.
● Serve as a business partner to the Executive Director on the organization’s financial and
budgeting processes with an eye to continuously developing and improving systems.

Education/Experience:
● Bachelor’s degree (MA/MBA preferred) in Business, Management, or Finance
● Five to eight years of professional experience (preference given to nonprofit experience)

Skills Required:
● Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting, ideally in the
nonprofit sector
● Experience should include legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource development
● Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating
efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems
● Proven effectiveness leading professionals in finance and accounting
● Flexible and a self-starter; able to multitask while also being highly detail-oriented
● Aptitude in presentation and public speaking
● Must embrace the mission of the North Alabama Zoological Society
● Strong interpersonal and writing skills
● People oriented and results driven
● Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
● Be organized and exhibit "follow through" on tasks and goals.
● Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate
presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability
● Ability to generate creative ideas
● Attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills
● Good time-management skills
