Crossroads Foster Care and Adoption Program

Kinnections

Position Description:

Foster Parenting is a calling on people’s lives to serve and provide for the well-being of both children and families who have experienced tough times. This opportunity is unique in that you will be involved in the great work of ensuring that large sibling groups stay together when they are removed from their homes and placed into foster care. At Crossroads Kinnections, we offer best-practice reunification measures in partnership with you and birth parents to see families reunited permanently again safely and timely.

This is a 24-hour a day responsibility, however, you will be eligible for respite one weekend out of each month to encourage self-care. To be considered for this opportunity, you must value family reunification and keeping siblings together at all costs. Providing for the holistic wellbeing of children in your care is essential, which includes caring for their birth family well. You must be willing to serve 5-12 children between the ages of 0-21 with various mental health, physical, emotional, and behavioral needs. Remembering that every person and family is different, therefore the children placed in your home will bring with them their own culture, and that culture must be respected and maintained as much as possible to ensure that children in your home feel safe and loved.

You will be a Crossroads Foster Parent with Christian City. This is a year-round commitment. You will not be an employee with our agency but a well-supported foster parent on our campus. One parent may have the opportunity to work outside of the home. While renting one of the homes on our campus, you will be provided with a vehicle for use to transport children and the support needed 24/7 to serve children and families well. The siblings living in the home with you have experienced various forms of trauma. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining a healthy and safe environment for the children in your home, and for providing parenting opportunities for birth families on a regular basis to prepare and encourage family reunification. In addition to the traditional foster parent certification process, you will be required to be trained by our staff in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) which will increase your parental capacity to serve these children well.

General Responsibilities

Under the supervision and direction of the Program Director and Foster Care and Adoptions Supervisor of Crossroads, the foster parents are responsible for all of the day to day operations of running the home such as ensuring the home continues to meet all governing standards; coordinating of all children’s needed services; assisting in visitations with birth families; responsibility for the supervision of all children in the home; recording keeping as required, etc.

Minimum Qualifications/Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED with relevant experience (preferably at least one year) in serving children and adolescents with trauma histories
  • Must be at least 25 years of age and married
  • Has and will maintain a current Georgia driver’s license with satisfactory driving record
  • Must be able to manage high stress, and have strong coping and problem-solving skills
  • Must have good and positive communication skills, and be a team player
  • Must be able to maintain a schedule
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred, or willing to secure in an agreed upon timeframe
  • Proficiency in technology (MS Office and Extended Reach)
  • Acceptable criminal records checks, child abuse records, motor vehicle report and drug screening
