Virtual Volunteer Opportunities Now Available at Our AimHire Employment Services Office

Friendship Place is seeking volunteers to assist AimHire clients with resume writing, mock interviews and assistance with mobile technology.

This volunteer opportunity is entirely virtual. No in person meetings will take place.

Volunteers with previous or current experience as a hiring manager or mentoring, coaching strongly encouraged.

Examples of responsibilities:

* Listen to client career goals and professional situations to write/edit professional resumes based on experience with recruiting, hiring managers, or industry knowledge.

* Provide advice through personalized videoconference consultations.

* Provide a professional level resume reformatting, grammatical corrections, and targeted content ensuring accuracy and strategic phrasing of responsibilities and accomplishments.

* Facilitate mock interviews via video conferencing, critique clients’ answers to common interview questions, and provide advice from industry knowledge/experience.

* Assist client with mobile internet technology such as how to connect to Wi-Fi, how to setup email and voicemail on a cellphone.

Time Commitment: 1 -2 days a week. Each session lasts approximately 60 - 90 minutes.

Mission Statement

At our core, our mission is to help people facing or at risk of homelessness to secure stable housing and embark on a new chapter in their lives. Our ultimate vision is for DC and beyond to be a place where everybody can find a place they can call "home."

Description

Friendship Place is staffed by over 100 people and has a wide reach in the DC Metro area. The highly successful programs have been given numerous awards, and help make a lasting difference in the lives of over 4,500 people yearly through street outreach, free medical and psychiatric clinic, including drop-in care, case management, transitional housing, rapid rehousing, permanent supportive housing for veterans and their families as well as job placement and specialized programs. Our program results have been incredibly successful, and various government and nonprofit organizations all over the country are studying our models to replicate our achievements.

Nonetheless, Friendship Place-supported by 26 congregations and more than 300 volunteers a year-retains the feel of a small, caring, neighborhood organization. The most commonly repeated refrain we hear from the people who come to us for help is this: "At other agencies, I felt like a number. At Friendship Place, I’m treated like a human being."
