I. ORGANIZATIONAL PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND
Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters (YBBBS) is a nationally recognized leading member of
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, long acknowledged as the premier one-to-one
youth mentoring organization. YBBBS was founded 47 years ago by VISTA volunteers
who not only implemented high quality program practices but also recruited community
leaders to serve on its founding board of directors. In the years following, the agency
has expanded geographically to serve Yavapai County and grown its capacity to attract,
screen and match qualified adult mentors with school aged boys and girls in need of
encouragement, guidance and support.
COVID-19 has forced YBBBS to shift its resources to more mobile and web friendly
platforms. The AmeriCorps member will provide logistical support for summer events
including Beanbags For Kids and Christmas in July. They would also provide support for
the execution of the mentoring symposium to be held in November. Beginning in May,
they will source guest speakers, set up sessions, and secure community investment
and participation.
II. PROJECT FOCUS AREAS AND ACTIVITIES
A. Project Development: The AmeriCorps members will update provided training
materials and content from YBBBS partners in the community. Training materials will
be captured via video and added to the new YBBBS mobile application.
B. Marketing and Outreach: The AmeriCorps member will become an ambassador for
YBBBS and perform outreach for bigs and littles to utilize the new YBBBS mobile
application. They will also inform community stakeholders of the usefulness and
necessity of mentorship resources through the app and the mentoring symposium.
C. Event Support: The AmeriCorps member will provide logistical support for summer
events including Beanbags For Kids and Christmas in July. They would also provide
support for the execution of the mentoring symposium to be held in November.
Beginning in May, they will source guest speakers, set up sessions, and secure
community investment and participation.
