Friends of MJHS

The SoulGentz' Basketball Team is looking for a creative, patient and committed young man to help us create, mentor and train a new basketball team which will be comprised of ten young men ages 13 and 14.

The SoulGentz Team has not been created yet. We are waiting to get our coaching staff in place before we start conducting tryouts. The onboarded coaches will help us seek out and secure an outdoor location for their teams to practice.

Due to the pandemic, we anticipate that tryouts and practices will be held outdoors until restrictions allow for us to return to our location. Practices are only held on Saturdays. When we are permitted to return indoors, our practices will be held in the downtown area of Rahway. In addition to basketball practices, our coaches should be prepared to conduct virtual and physical fitness training exercises with the young men and in times where outdoor practices are not feasible (weather), conduct team meetings/activities online.

This will be an abbreviated season - starting in March and ending in June. The team will take a break in July and when they return in August - they will be registered under the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). Coaches MUST submit to a background check through the AAU (which we will pay for).

Candidates must have extensive knowledge and experience in basketball - even if they have never coached before. We will also accept high school juniors and seniors as team coaching assistants for community service credit.

Please let us know about your basketball coaching experience when you reach out to us. Thank you!
