About the job

Southside Center of Hope (SSCOH) is a residential facility dedicated to creating a safe, healing community where women and their children recover from substance abuse, trauma, and mental illness. Its vision is to eradicate the effects of homelessness and substance use addiction among women and their children. Over 38 years, Southside Center of Hope (formerly known as St. Martin de Porres House of Hope) has helped more than 4,100 families recover from homelessness and the disease of drug addiction through an intensive 12 to 18-month residential program designed to meet the unique biological, psychological, social, and familial needs of female substance abusers and their children. Southside Center of Hope is the only recovery home in the State of Illinois that provides long-term care to women following treatment and detox that does not charge program fees or bill insurance, enabling it to serve those who have no resources and are most in need. SSCOH serves single women, pregnant women, and women with children.

Purpose

To advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, and assist with the leadership and general promotion of SSCO to support the organization’s mission and needs.

Vision Statement

To eradicate the effects of homelessness and addiction among women and their children.

Major responsibilities
  • Organizational leadership and advisement
  • Organization of the board of directors, officers, and committees
  • Oversight of policies and procedures
  • Financial management, including adoption and oversight of the annual budget.
  • Oversight of program planning and evaluation
  • Evaluation of the Executive Director
  • Review of organizational and programmatic reports
  • Promotion of the organization fundraising and outreach initiatives
  • Members of the board share these responsibilities while acting in the interest of Southside Center of Hope and its partners. Each member is expected to make recommendations based on his or her experience and vantage point in the community.
