About BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF LONG ISLAND

Location:

145 SYCAMORE LN, ISLANDIA, NY 11749, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth by making meaningful, professionally supported matches between adult volunteers (Bigs) and children (Littles).

Description

Since 1977, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island has believed that every child should have the opportunity to reach his or her full potential, both as individuals and citizens. By doing so, they will not only do well, they will also do great things.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island is a one to one mentorship program in our community. Children who participate in our program achieve:

Higher Aspirations - Greater Confidence - Better Relationships

- Educational Success - Avoidance of Risky Behaviors

Community-Based mentoring includes our traditional, one-to-one mentoring programs where we match children between the ages of 7 and 16 (our Littles) with a caring adult mentor, aged 21 or older (our Bigs). Where our Site-Based mentoring programs match volunteer mentors to children in a supervised setting and are professionally supported by a program team member throughout the duration of the program. Matches meet regularly, where Bigs provide homework assistance, friendship and model positive behavior.
