Do you love sailing? Would you like to share your love of sailing with our Special Olympic athletes and volunteer to be a sailing partner? We need your help today!

Special Olympics Lake Norman/Mooresville, NC area is looking for Sailing Unified Partners to volunteer to assist Special Olympic athletes. Unified Partners are individuals who do not have intellectual disabilities competing alongside the athletes. If you have the sport knowledge and are at least 18 years of age, we can train you on how to work with Special Olympic athletes.

  • Commit to being a Partner for a full sailing season.
  • Must have appropriate sport knowledge and be proficient on the 420 or Flying Scot.
  • Complete online and in-person training to give you the tools to be successful.
  • Pass a criminal background screening at no cost to you.
  • Be available to practice at the Lake Norman Yacht Club and travel to local competitions.
  • Commit to volunteering for 2 hours per week from late April through mid September.
