Do you love sports, exercise or any type of educational play activity? Would you like to share this with young Special Olympic athletes and become a volunteer coach? We need your help today!

Special Olympics Lake Norman/Mooresville, NC area is looking for "Young Athletes" Coaches to lead our athletes in this amazing program.

Special Olympics Young Athletes is an inclusive early childhood sports and educational play program for children aged 2 to 7 years old, with and without intellectual disabilities, that includes games, songs and other fun, physical activities. With an emphasis on training and participation rather than competition, young athletes learn basic sports skills and how to play with others as well as enjoying gross motor skills training, group interaction and socialization opportunities. These basic skills will prepare the Young Athletes for future participation in sports.

This program meets once a week for 1 to 2 hours during the school day. Support will be provided by a local coordinator with additional assistance from high school volunteers. If you are at least 18 years of age, we can train you on how to work with Special Olympic athletes.

  • Commit to being a Coach for a full school year, August 2021 through May 2022.
  • Must have appropriate exercise knowledge and a desire to lead the athletes in activities.
  • Complete online and in-person training to give you the tools to be successful.
  • Pass a criminal background screening at no cost to you.
  • Commit to volunteering for 1 to 2 hours per week during the school year.
