Love to garden? New to gardening but don't know where to start? Whether you're a novice or an expert, come on out and help us maintain Tomoka State Park’s native garden. Green thumb not required, just a willingness to get your hands dirty! Our native plant garden requires weeding and other maintenance weekly. This is a non-residential position.

Volunteer Position Title: Gardener

Volunteer Manager: Aggie Armstrong - Aggie.Armstrong@floridadep.gov

Job Type: Maintenance

Month Availability: April-October

Time Commitment: ~4 hours per week depending on weather and grow seasons

Regular Job Duties:

• Weeding
• Deadheading annuals
• Planting
• Picking up limbs
• Pruning shrubs
• Watering
• Other garden activities as needed

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required:

• Be able to perform manual labor outdoors and in all weather conditions - Florida summers are very hot with near-daily rain!
• Be comfortable working as a part of a team
• Have a valid driver’s license
• Be able to pass a sexual offender background check
• Be at least 18 years old

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Preferred: Experience gardening, knowledge of native and non-native plant species or willingness to learn, ability to identify plants using books, smartphone applications, or other means. PPE, volunteer uniforms and nametag will be provided.

Training: All necessary training will be provided in-house.
