Qualifications, Training, and Duties

The WaterFire Arts Center (WFAC) is always looking for friendly, outgoing people with excellent communication skills and an ability and desire to work with diverse visitors. All docents receive a training session by staff, so an art background is not necessary.

The role of a docent:
  1. Health screen and take visitors temperatures upon arrival
  2. Serve as hosts, to provide a welcoming atmosphere.
  3. Serve as interpreters of the art's exhibitions, helping to give the visitor a deeper understanding and appreciation of the artwork.
Benefits of Becoming a Docent

Docents participate in satisfying experiences working with all visitors from children, college students, and community members while they expand their understanding of art and are challenged by new ideas.

Whether you are a college student, retiree, or someone interested in giving back to the community, consider becoming a docent today!

Other volunteer opportunities include helping prepare for new art exhibits, visitor support and store clerk and anything else the team dreams up!

WaterFire Providence's mission is to inspire Providence and its visitors by revitalizing the urban experience, fostering community engagement, and creatively transforming the city by presenting WaterFire for all to enjoy.

Description

WaterFire Providence Brings Art to the Community, by the Community

WaterFire Providence is known for the lightings that take place downtown with local artists and food vendors. We hope to get back to lightings downtown later this year but for now our main focus is the WaterFire Arts Center (WFAC)! Since the pandemic WaterFire continued to create art for the community, by the community at the WFAC.

WaterFire Providence Volunteers are an integral part of every event we host. They assist in all aspects of event production, special projects, and anything else we dream up.

Volunteers build, perform, inspire, engage, and enjoy! WaterFire volunteers come from all walks of life, and we appreciate the diversity and talents that are among them. Over the years, a network of volunteers has been established, and we are delighted at the community that they have become.
