Venice Community Housing's Study Lounge provides supplementary academic support to elementary schoolers in Los Angeles. Historically, participants have been tenants of one of VCH’s affordable housing properties, but the program welcomes all families living in the area. The majority of students that Study Lounge serves are children of immigrants, primarily from Latin American countries. These families are unfamiliar with the Los Angeles school system, the concepts and skills children must master to succeed in school, and how to monitor their children’s academic progress from year to year.
Due to Covid-19, Study Lounge is being held virtually Monday-Thursday. Volunteers will provide tutoring services on one or more of these days between 3-4:30PM. Previous experience working with children is preferred but not required.
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
About Venice Community Housing
720 Rose Avenue, Venice, CA 90291, US
Venice Community Housing's mission is to preserve the economic, racial and social diversity of Venice and the surrounding area by maximizing affordable housing and economic development opportunities and providing needed social services to the area's low-income population.
For over 30 years Venice Community Housing (VCH) has been developing lasting, neighborhood-based solutions for low-income families and individuals throughout the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Venice and Mar Vista. We own and manage nearly 200 units of affordable housing, both transitional and permanent, that produce income to help us serve our residents. We also provide a comprehensive program that includes job training, youth development and employment, life skills coaching and family services. This blend of housing and supportive programs allows our formerly homeless and low-income constituents to achieve economic and personal stability. Every person who transitions out of homelessness or joblessness adds to the strength of our community. Our efforts make neighborhoods safer and more inclusive.
