ORGANIZATION: The Phoenix

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 5 people are interested

The Phoenix Tampa builds sober active communities that fuel resilience and harness the transformational power of connection so that together we rise, recover, and live. Volunteers are peers who have lived experiences through their own recovery journey, or have a personal, allied connection to recovery. All Phoenix events are free to attend! We just ask for 48 hours of continuous sobriety.

We are currently seeking volunteers who are passionate about The Phoenix mission and can lead or assist with activities that you are passionate about! Some examples are yoga, running, dance, book club, arts & crafts, and so much more. Volunteers may also help with community outreach and promotion.

If you have an idea for an event, we can help make it happen!

Some important things to note:

  • COVID-19 safety protocols are in place
  • Must be at least 18 years old to volunteer
  • Training will be provided
  • Events can happen in your own neighborhood, in any borough of Tampa. We love keeping things local and accessible!
  • Some events require volunteers have fitness certifications to lead them, but MOST do not. Please email us (address below) for more info about this

Have an idea for an event you want to lead? Are you interested in volunteering or want to learn more? Please let us know, or fill out an Interest Form and we’ll contact you: https://thephoenix.org/volunteer/

About The Phoenix

Mission Statement

The Phoenix offers a free sober active community to individuals who have suffered from a substance use disorder and to those who choose a sober life. Using a peer support model, we help members heal and rebuild their lives while also striving to eliminate stigma around recovery.

Description

The ultimate impact Phoenix seeks is to help individuals not only achieve sobriety, but to thrive in recovery. The Phoenix Model is unique because of its non-clinical approach that uses the power of human connection and positive coping mechanisms through physical activity to help people heal from the underlying causes of addiction.

Phoenix peer instructors use an experiential approach that leverages innate goal-setting association with engagement in physical activities while facilitating a positive and supportive experience, allowing team members to shed the defense mechanisms that have historically kept them isolated. By bringing people together, Phoenix creates a community where people can heal, obtain essential life skills, and practice effective social interaction. Research suggests facilitating physical activity, social connection and community are potent strategies for promoting health and healing from disease.
