ORGANIZATION: Riseboro Community Partnership

  • 13 people are interested

Riseboro Community Partnership is seeking volunteers who are interested in spending one hour out of the week chatting via phone with a home bound senior citizen. Many of our seniors are isolated more than ever and therefore are battling depression and anxiety due to the impact of COVID-19. We ask that volunteers commit to at least 6 months.

Our senior citizens are unable to go out into the community and are looking for a companion to laugh with, talk to and enjoy their time with!

Our goal is to transition our phone matches into physical matches once the Social Distancing rules are lifted, however there is space for volunteers to maintain phone only relationships with the senior they are matched with.

This is a mutually rewarding friendship, where you're able to learn about the seniors in your neighborhoods, their art styles, interests and the changes that have occurred to the community over the years!

We serve a diverse group of elderly and seek people of all backgrounds and ages (18 and up) to join us in helping our seniors feel more connected to their communities.

This Friendly Visiting Program is funded by The NYC Department for the Aging.

Description

The Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council was founded in 1973 as a senior service provider in the Ridgewood and Bushwick communities. At the heart of its mission was a deep commitment to empowering individuals and supporting families through the creation and facilitation of a thriving and healthy environment where growth and prosperity are possible. Since its founding, RBSCC has grown tremendously and its scope of services has extended far beyond that of its early years. Today it provides a vast array of social services to residents of all ages within the Bushwick, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, East New York, Ridgewood, Glendale, and surrounding Brooklyn and Queens communities. Serving thousands each year, the RBSCC has assisted countless community residents since 1973.
