Nature in the City's mission is to connect everyone in San Francisco to nature by cultivating and conserving local habitats. Skyscrapers, coyotes, and sand dunes. Rapidly urbanizing San Francisco is a biodiversity hotspot. With so many colorful plants and animals sharing our home, we're dedicated to educating our community about urban wildlife and pioneering projects to encourage exploring and stewarding local habitats. We connect youth and adults to urban ecology in San Francisco because we believe in the importance of engaging with local nature. By organizing habitat restoration projects throughout diverse neighborhoods in San Francisco, we seek to empower local communities with tools to participate in stewardship, citizen science, and lifelong learning.
Our strategies/program areas are public education, community stewardship, conservation advocacy, and collaboration. Ecological restoration and long-term ecological sustainability depend upon people and institutions changing how they interact with their local natural environment. In San Francisco, a new culture of local community ecological stewardship is emerging. Nature in the City: · Inspires wonder, knowledge, celebration and respect for the Franciscan bioregion · Restores urban people's sense of place and interconnectedness with their local biodiversity · Builds Community by catalyzing local wildland stewardship · Strengthens ngo and public advocacy for the city's nature, biodiversity and natural areas · Unifies our local ecological restoration and stewardship movement. We can restore urban watersheds and biodiversity and realize local ecological sustainability by interacting dynamically and harmoniously with nature in the city.
We'll work with your schedule.
