Member Duties : As our VISTA, you will serve at our social enterprise thrift store and our headquarters to expand our volunteer program and bring in more in-kind donations to the organization overall. You will accomplish this by meeting with organizations local to the thrift store's surrounding area and current partners. You will meet with area corporations, government agencies, and churches to increase our participation with any number of local partners. Ultimately, you will expand our capacity in order to increase the number of families served by the Furniture Bank! **Benefits include a $200 housing stipend to supplement living costs.**Program Benefits : Living Allowance , Training , Relocation Allowance , Health Coverage* , Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend , Childcare assistance if eligible , $200 housing stipend .

The mission of the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio is to provide a free furniture for individuals and families struggling with poverty and other severe life challenges - "Turning Empty Houses Into Homes." The organization was originally "Material Assistance Providers" from 1998-2006, and "MAP Furniture Bank" from 2006-2009.

Description

We collect gently used furniture, appliances and household items, and distribute them free of charge to families trying to move out of difficult situations, which without help, can be emotionally and financially overwhelming. Our work gives these families a better chance at establishing a permanent and nurturing home.
