**It is not necessary to speak Russian or Ukrainian, so please still read on if you speak English.
Are you interested in having a direct impact on the lives of street dogs from the comfort of your own home? We have a unique opportunity for you to help street dogs in Kyiv, Ukraine. In Ukraine, thousands of homeless dogs roam the streets without any hope of ever having a home.

At Transform a Street Dog we are dedicated to helping the underdog (pun intended. :))

We specialize in rehabilitating older and disabled dogs and finding homes for them. In Ukraine it is very difficult to find homes for mixed-breed dogs. Dogs over 1 year old and 30lbs have virtually no chance of being adopted. Dogs with missing legs or eyes have essentially zero chance of adoption. We do everything we can to find homes for dogs locally in Kyiv, Ukraine, but sometimes it is just not possible. In these cases we will try to bring the dogs to the USA where they are often adopted in less than 1 week.

We depend on flight volunteers, people who ALREADY have a ticket from Kyiv, Ukraine to the USA and who are willing to bring dogs back with them.

The other option to bring dogs to the USA is to ship them via unaccompanied cargo or to charter a plane. We have not done either of these because of the costs involved. We are looking for a creative and outgoing volunteer that might also be able to help us find other ways to bring more dogs to the USA.

Duties:

  • Recruit flight volunteers using expat websites and groups
  • Confirm ticket compatibility/assist volunteer in finding pet compatible ticket
  • Coordinate with case manager that documents and logistics are in order
  • Reach out to and build connections with shippers, airlines, politicians that could help us find connections to find a safe and economic way to do large transports.

Qualifications:

  • Should live in Ukraine, or have previously lived in Ukraine and qualify to join of online expat communities.
  • 3 to 6 month commitment (Able to dedicate 2-3 hours a week to role)
  • Be a self-starter, a networker, and negotiator. Be able to think creatively to solve problems.
  • Able to use Viber to communicate with overseas volunteers and enjoy engaging with other volunteers; ability to be diplomatic and a team player
  • Comfortable using translation software to communicate with volunteers that don’t speak English. If you speak Russian or Ukrainian this is a plus but not required.
  • Ukraine time zone is 10 hours ahead of PST, 7 hours ahead of EST; should have the ability to talk in the morning or late at night to accommodate time change.
  • It is not necessary, but preferred to have some connection to or knowledge about Eastern Europe and have some understanding of the street dog crises in undeveloped countries.

Next Steps:

  • Click the "I want to help" button to message us; please include the following:
  • A short summary of why you are interested in this volunteer position and your related experience.
  • Total hours per week you can volunteer
  • Any questions
