If you're compassionate, fluent in English, and can volunteer for 4 hours per week, we want YOU to help a small group of Houston adults learn to speak English. You'll meet some amazing people, experience the joy and fulfillment of helping others succeed, and know that you're making Houston a better place for all of us!
NO prior teaching experience or second language is required. Some of our ESL classes continue to meet remotely. Classes meet Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. If this volunteer opportunity is for you, we'll train you (remotely, two 2-hour sessions, free), match you with a group of adult learners and support you as you get started on the exciting and hugely rewarding activity of helping your neighbors learn English as a second (or third!) language (ESL).
While it’s currently possible to volunteer from anywhere, we really value connecting learners and volunteers within the Greater Houston area. Something special happens when we’re all working together to benefit the (same) greater community.

At Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM), we work to build financially stable families, a stronger workforce, and supportive, healthy neighborhoods right here in Houston! MAM helps them build skills, resources, and confidence to overcome today’s challenges and create a more hopeful tomorrow. Clients receive emotional support and encouragement and are actively engaged to reflect on the underlying cause of the crisis and empowered to work towards a stable future. MAM volunteers and case managers ensure that clients are linked to MAM programs and other appropriate community services, so that they can achieve their goals of becoming engaged members of our Houston community.

We offer programs enabling long-term financial self-sufficiency, assist families facing financial crisis avoid homelessness, ensure children an improved school experience, facilitate client access to other support networks, and provide value to our member congregations and the community.
