Girls on the Run - DC is a life-changing, positive youth empowerment program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. We welcome enthusiastic, dedicated and positive volunteers who are committed to empowering girls with valuable life lessons to serve as Community Coaches for our Spring 2021 program.

We are recruiting Community Coaches for teams of 8-12 girls in Washington, DC! Below are details about the volunteer opportunity. If interested, please email carly@gotrdc.org to learn more!

What you will be doing:
Alongside other Coaches, you will deliver our pre-written lessons that cover topics such as self-acceptance, confidence, compassion for others, intentional decision-making, and goal setting to a team of 8-12 girls. Each lesson creatively incorporates running so that girls can work towards their goal of running a 5K at the end of the season.

Location:
Southeast, DC Fort Dupont - actual address to be disclosed during application process.

Practice schedule: Monday, Thursday 4:30pm-5:45pm.

Dates of the program: Starts the week of March 22nd and ends with the celebratory 5K week beginning on Sunday, May 30th

We have two requirements for our Community Coaches: commit to working with a group of girls for two practices a week throughout the 8-week season and bring energy and joy to each practice!

As a Community Coach, here are a few things to keep in mind:

- All new Community Coaches must attend a training session

- You are committing to volunteer 75-90 minutes, two times per week for 8 weeks, with additional time needed for the 5K.

We hope to get you involved! Please email carly@gotrdc.org to learn more!

Mission Statement

Girls on the Run is a life-changing, character development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.

Description

Girls on the Run-DC is an independent council of Girls on the Run International, founded in 1996, by Molly Barker, a visionary, Ironman triathlete. Today, there are nearly 170 locations across the U.S. & Canada, with new locations added each year. Girls on the Run combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) event with healthy living education. We use exercise, positive reinforcement, and encouraging role models to help girls discover the confidence they need in the critical pre-teen years and beyond.
