Thank you for your interest in becoming a Kidsave Volunteer Coordinator for our Chicago Community!

Kidsave is a non-profit organization with the mission to advocate for older kids so they move from Institutional care into permanent families! Kidsave.org started a Summer Miracles hosting model in 1999 and it has been very successful in finding adoptive families for 75% of the participating kids.

We currently are running the 100 Families for 100 Kids campaign and we need all the help we can get to make this happen.

Our host families in the Chicagoland area will be hosting kids for 5 weeks in the Summer during the month of July. And then we will have another cohort of families hosting in December for 3 weeks. Volunteer Coordinators have fun and crucial roles to make this program a success!

We are looking to fill the following Coordinator roles for Kidsave Chicago Community:

  • - Media Outreach:
This involves connecting and contacting local papers, radio stations, and News Channels, to get coverage for the program. Many adoptive families learn about Kidsave and events through this effort. The time frame is 4 weeks before the hosting program and during the hosting program. June-July and November-December.
  • - Weekend Event Planning:
We are expecting to have small events to safely social distance in the summer. Previous events have consisted of picnics at the park with games, bowling alleys, cupcake or pizza making, scrapbooking, arts/crafts. The events happen in July, and potentially 1st week in August. Only 1 event per weekend, during 2-3 hours. The role involves contacting and booking venues, be resourceful to get partnerships/contacts who can host events at no cost. Plan event in coordination with Community Coordinator.
  • - Visit Family Coordinator:
The role involves introducing potential adoptive families to the host families at the weekend advocacy events. The Kidsave office will approve every potential adoptive family prior to meeting the kids. The Coordinator facilitates pocket parties (short meet-up opportunities) for visiting families and visiting children. This role will be needed in July and August.
  • Fundraising Coordinator:
This role involves working with Kidsave's assistant developer, Community Coordinator, and other community volunteers to plan, implement, and advertise virtual events in 2021. This opportunity is ONGOING.

The children who are living in Colombia, are given the opportunity to travel to the United States each summer for a short visit of five weeks. During this time, the children meet potential adoptive families, they learn American culture and have a great time with their host families. By the end of their visit , the goal is to find at least one adoptive family for each child or sibling group.
