Volunteer Description: Declared Underprivileged Troubled Youths (D.U.T.Y) is looking to put together a team of volunteers for our Grant Writing committee. Volunteer Grant Writers will be responsible for developing and writing grant proposals to grant-making organizations and will persuasively communicate D.U.T.Y’s mission and programs to potential funders. The Grant Writer will assemble and submit grant requests, establish, and maintain personal contact and relationships with granter contacts, conduct prospect research, and maintain a calendar of submissions and other deadlines.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Work within the Grant Writing Committee to develop and implement an annual development plan/strategy to increase annual grant income.
Develop/write grant proposals to foundations and grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating organization’s mission and programs to potential funders.
Assemble/submit grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations.
Conduct prospect research, collecting data and writing for each grant.
Report progress in grant research, grant submission and outcome to the Executive Director.
Manage the proposal submission process to ensure timely submission of all required materials.
Develops and maintains a proposal calendar.
Coordinate and follow up on the progress of submitted proposals.
Track and record hours on timesheet.
Previous Grant Writing and Academic Writing experience preferred.
Detail-oriented, organized, deadline-driven.
Clear, precise, and compelling writing skills.
Able to effectively communicate.
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in all areas of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Must be able to represent D.U.T.Y well (gracious and pleasant) in conversations with funders, other volunteers, and staff members; proactive in communicating needs and problems.
Good work ethic: possesses an eagerness to learn, begin work on time, improve in their skills and attitude, work hard, go the extra mile even when no one is looking, and be a self-starter.

D.U.T.Y. (Declared Underprivileged Trouble Youth) Mentoring Program Inc. begin 2017 with a group of community members who were interested in supporting those children who are at risk of becoming victims of falling through cracks of dropping our school falling victims to pipeline to prison system. Our main interest is in supporting children who have issues in school, home and communities.
