Location: Blue Ridge Humane Society Adoption Center

Day and Time: Thursday 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

POSITION SUMMARY- Purpose of position and relevance to BRHS mission

The Kibble Crew Volunteer Shift Leader will be responsible for overseeing and managing the Kibble Crew Volunteers throughout their shift. This will require assisting with set-up and clean-up, distributing bags of food to volunteers, pre-labeling plastic bags, and moving completed totes of food. The food bagged by these volunteers will be distributed to our food pantry partners, Meals on Wheels Pet Pals program, Manna Community Markets, and BRHS food giveaways. Each of these programs help us to serve the animals in Henderson County to ensure the highest quality of life by providing food to those who need pet food assistance. This position in particular will help to make sure the food bagging is done in the most efficient and safe way possible so we can get as much food out as quickly as we can in order to address rising needs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Including but not limited to:

  • Volunteers must regularly commit to regularly coming for the designated shift time.
  • Volunteers are required to sign up 24 hours in advance for desired shift, show up on time for your volunteer shift, and communicate with the Volunteer Coordinator if unable to attend their shift(s).
  • Assist Volunteer Coordinator with set-up and break-down of the Kibble Crew shift materials.
  • Provide new food bags to volunteers throughout the shift.
  • Move and load-up full totes of food.
  • Assemble labeled plastic bags when needed.
  • Keep workspace clean throughout the shift.
  • Make sure all volunteers have the supplies that they need for their shift.
  • Work cooperatively with staff and other volunteers.
  • Represents BRHS in a professional manner at all times in appearance, demeanor.
  • Communicate effectively with Volunteer Coordinator, staff, and volunteers and help maintain a positive work environment.
  • Maintain a judgment free attitude. Many different people access our services for a variety of reasons; a key tenant of our Food Assistance Program is to reserve judgment of anyone coming to us for assistance.
  • At the completion of your shift, enter your completed hours into the online Volunteer Information Center.
  • Report all concerns or issues immediately Volunteer Coordinator.

Timeframe and Commitment:

  • If the Volunteer is no longer able to commit to a regular weekly schedule, they will inform the Volunteer Coordinator.

Qualifications and Trainings Required:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds with assistance from staff.
  • Must be 17 or older.
  • Previous project management skills and organizational skills.
  • Must attend a Volunteer Information Session (formerly Volunteer Orientation).
  • Ability to function as part of a team and work with volunteers, staff, and members of the public.
  • Possess good judgment when dealing with the public and animals.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 25 pounds when needed.
  • Must love animals AND people!
