Home Start is seeking an organized, dependable volunteer to provide administrative support to their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). This volunteer will work directly with the Home Start VITA staff and will be supervised by the VITA Site Coordinators and Earned Income Tax Credit Coordinator.
VITA is a federal program that provides free tax filing for communities and families in need. This position is a great opportunity to grow experience in administration and client services, while supporting Home Start's mission to prevent child abuse and neglect.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Answering the phone, screening tax clients for eligibility, scheduling appointments, and returning phone calls.
Willing to complete basic training and learn provided scheduling software. Training will be provided to ensure that only clients whose taxes are within the scope of the VITA program requirements are scheduled- ex: low-income, at-risk, etc.
Must enjoy working with people from all backgrounds, serve them with the utmost respect, and provide clients with an overall pleasant experience.
Assist as needed with intake, and assure that client documentation is in order.
Maintain client/taxpayer confidentiality and keep all information private.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Regular phone calls and communications with clients, Tax Preparers, and Staff.
Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times.
Onboarding Process:
This position will assist with VITA Scheduling through April 2021.
Volunteer will be required to complete an application, LiveScan background check, and additional onboarding steps with Home Start.
