Would you like to work one-on-one with low-income individuals and families to help them improve their money management skills and increase their financial stability? If so and you have strong communication, research, and computer skills, apply for this position. Applicants are interviewed by program staff, and, if accepted, receive formal training on such topics as banking, budgeting, credit basics, credit reports, debt collection, public benefits, and student loans as well as best practices for working with clients. The next 20-hour training series will be via webinar and begin Tuesday, March 28 th. After completing training successfully, volunteers, who are expected to commit to four to six hours of service per week for at least one year, are then respectively placed at partner agencies throughout New York City to provide the financial coaching itself. During the pandemic, most volunteers are serving remotely, though there is also an in-person option.

Mission Statement
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City was started in 1966 by the Community Service Society (CSS), an over 170-year-old nonprofit agency. CSS's mission is to identify problems which create a permanent poverty class in New York City, and to advocate the systemic changes required to eliminate such problems. CSS will focus on enabling, empowering and promoting opportunities for poor families and individuals to develop their full potential, to contribute to society, and to realize social, economic, and political opportunities.
Description
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City matches adults 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities at New York City nonprofits. With more than 2,300 volunteers, our program is one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation. There are over 600 of us which operate nationally and many that do so internationally. We match volunteers on the basis of interests and abilities, community needs, geographic convenience, and experience.
