Help our visitors connect with railroad history!

Being a Tour Guide is an engaging and rewarding experience. Tour Guides offer visitors a rare behind-the-scenes look into the mechanical workings, personal stories, and unique history of these magnificent machines and the worlds they transformed. Watch someone's eyes light up as they have an "ah ha!" moment making lasting cognitive connections between the 'facts' and the real lives affected by these events.

Each Friday, visitors join us for an hour exploring different aspects of Colorado’s railroad history. Each week’s theme is explored using a variety of museum resources, artifacts, and spaces that help connect our theme to visitors’ lives. While our weekly tour is on Friday, there are other opportunities to volunteer throughout the week. Bus tours and other adult organizations can also reserve one of our themed tours for a specific date and time.

Never given a Tour before? That's ok! We offer the opportunity for new volunteers to shadow existing volunteers and also attend Tour Guide Training:
Training covers:

  • How to create a treasured experience versus just another ho-hum tour
  • An overview of the museum’s themed tours and outlines
  • Museum Visitor types and how to work with them to make the most of their tour
  • Logistics and techniques that keep everyone safe and happy
  • How to properly follow COVID guidelines with small groups

Friendly and professional Tour Guides provide our guests with an exceptional experience while visiting our facility. In this role, you will be responsible for engaging visitors for the duration of the tour, sharing interesting facts about the history of the Colorado Railroad Museum and answering any questions they may have. You will also provide helpful tips on other attractions or restaurants in the area that are popular among tourists to help ensure our guests enjoy their stay.

Being a Tour Guide is a truly rewarding experience. Learn new things, meet new people and make a difference for our organization and visitors.
