ORGANIZATION: The Connected Chef - Lifeline Grocery Initiative

The Connected Chef is looking for volunteers to help pack and prepare grocery packages for delivery.

  • This work is done in Long Island City at 49-09 5th Street
  • Duties may include the following packing bulk dry goods (rice, beans, pasta) into individual-sized bags, packing boxes with vegetables, fruits, and dry goods, and loading vehicles.
  • The location is outdoors in an unpaved parking lot. There is a roof covering over part of the working area.
  • Please check the weather forecast and bring weather appropriate clothing.
  • The parking lot is unpaved so please wear sturdy shoes.

Due to the spread of COVID19, safety protocols and procedures will be extremely tight.

  • We ask that all volunteers wear a mask and gloves when working in addition to keeping social distance.
  • We will have extra masks and gloves on hand if you don’t have them for yourself.
  • Spaces are cleaned during the shift and fully sanitized at the end of each day.

3 Shifts

  • morning / 09:00 AM to 11:45 AM
    Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays
  • afternoon / 12:00 PM to 03:00 PM
    Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
  • afternoon / 03:00 PM to 04:45 PM
    Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays

Each week, The Connected Chef delivers grocery packages to families that ensure they have enough food to last them through week. What makes our packages unique, is the realistic balance of vital ingredients that meet every family's needs.
