English Conversational Club: Talk MoVal

Save to Favorites

Moreno Valley Public Library

Moreno Valley Public Library’s Talk MoVal is seeking tech-savvy volunteers 18+ who are interested in helping adults develop and strengthen English listening & speaking skills.

Talk MoVal is an English conversational club facilitated by volunteers & staff members to address the limited English speaking & listening abilities of Moreno Valley's immigrant communities. This is not a formal English-As-A-Second Language program, volunteers will not be expected to teach a group of adults English-As-A-Second Language, rather you'll be facilitators for group conversations for peoples with limited &/or still developing English listening & speaking skills.

The point of Talk MoVal is to provide English speaking experience to peoples who many not speak English primarily at home by providing them with as much real-world experience needed to develop as much English speaking abilities as possible in a purposely safe and non-judgemental space.

Selected volunteers must commit to at least six months of service, and agree to volunteer once a month on Monday at 1:30pm one (1) to two (2) hours. Meetings between facilitator-volunteers and club members will be conducted online through ZOOM or over the phone. Volunteers are expected to handle a meeting size of up to 7 members. All materials and training will be provided to the volunteers by the Library. There is no test conducted, however successful completion of orientation, training and annual meetings with staff is required.

If you are unable to volunteer once a month on Monday at 1:30pm, but are still interested in applying please continue to apply. Based on need we may expand Talk MoVal meeting times to better fit your preferred schedule.

All volunteers over the age of 18 must pass a background check with the City of Moreno Valley.
