Event Description:
Litter is a pervasive problem throughout the city, and Walnut Creek Wetland Park is no exception. Instead of devoting one day to the Earth this month, we will have a series of cleanup events! This particular event is geared towards families. Got young children? No problem. This event will have you spaced out according to family (to socially distance from other families), and have you on sidewalks and the greenway, on even terrain. Strollers are ok, too.
Impact:
We cannot do this all alone. Your help is helping to not only beautify the park, but to create a more sustainable ecosystem.
Volunteer Duties:
Removing litter from sidewalks and greenways within the park. Boots will be provided.
Work Environment:
We will be outdoors on sidewalks and greenways. Some areas may be difficult to move a stroller from sidewalk to greenway or vice versa. There is a restroom on site.
Volunteer Requirements:
Volunteers must be at least 5 years old. Children ages 5 - 12 must be accompanied by an adult. All volunteers must sign a waiver. Volunteers under 18 years of age must have a release signed by their parent/guardian. All volunteers must undergo a short wellness check that includes a few questions and a temperature check. All volunteers will be required to wear masks/face coverings.
Other Instructions:
Volunteers should dress to be outdoors in clothes that can get wet, messy or torn. Volunteers should bring a refillable water bottle, work gloves, and any school service hour forms they may require.
COVID-19 Policy:
Volunteers and staff must follow the COVID-19 policies below so that projects are safe for everyone.
Group Registration Information:
Registration as a volunteer is first come, first served. A group leader must email rachel.vannoordt@raleighnc.gov to register. All groups will be required to provide a list of names and emails for their volunteers.
Per department policy, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed/ suggested community service hours.
